At Open Door, we believe that every person counts, and fully endorse the
government policy that “Every Child Matters”. We also work closely with
similar-minded organisations through our community networking activities.
Restorative action and resettlement through the youth justice system are
examples of measures which we use to assist youths who have committed
crimes, or are at risk of offending, to access more meaningful lifestyles
intended to steer them into respectable activities
Some of the core values we promote are:

Offender Resettlement Work
We prioritise referrals from:
• Offenders subject to life licences, or who have a serious criminal history and
complex needs
• Offenders assessed as representing a high risk to themselves or community
and where the support offered by Open Door will significantly reduce their risk
behaviour and reduce the likelihood of re-offending, or harm to the community.
Supporting Women at Risk of Offending & Ex-Offenders
Open Door does not operate any blanket exclusions. Large, mixed gender
schemes often result in conflict and despair for women, especially since many
will have experienced violence, abuse and exploitation in the past. In
providing smaller schemes exclusively for women, we ensure that women
tenants have the space and safety to develop independent living skills and
regain the confidence and self-esteem to maintain a positive and crime-free
lifestyle. The service for women consists of smaller shared homes and floating
support to flats in the community, all staffed by women.
For many women, support begins with pre release contact, encouraging each
individual to identify her needs and problems. Once housed in one of our
properties an individually tailored support plan is confirmed with a
Resettlement Support Worker. This sets out the steps towards independent
living that will also contribute to ending re-offending.
